Along with Dan Bena of PepsiCo global operations and Claire Lyons of the PepsiCo Foundation, I recently attended World Water Week in Stockholm. This conference has been an annual event since 1991 and brings together NGOs, governments, researchers, and companies from around the world. This year, over 100 countries Afghanistan to Zimbabwe were represented. Many of the alliances in which PepsiCo participates, including the Water Footprint Network, the UN CEO Water Mandate, and the World Business Council on Sustainable Development’s water leadership group, met during the week to share information and report on group initiatives. Each year, the Ethisphere Institute examines companies around the world to award those who exhibit best practices in business ethics, anti-corruption, CSR and sustainability. As Ethisphere states on their website: There is no set number of companies that make the "World's Most Ethical Companies" list each year. Rather, the designation is awarded to those companies that have leading ethics and compliance programs, particularly as compared to their industry peers. Read more

In Mexico, we just started a new school year. Millions of children will have new experiences, new challenges and above all, a fresh opportunity to share and build a healthier school environment. A significant part of this learning experience will take place during recess, the recreo -as we call it here in Mexico- and in PepsiCo, we are contributing to make this moment of the day as fun and enjoyable as it has always been. As summer winds down, beach bags are traded in for backpacks, and sports practices and games begin to take over family schedules. While the fall season may bring cooler temperatures (in some cities), heat exhaustion and dehydration are still a threat even as the leaves begin to fall. Read more

We are proud to announce that PepsiCo and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) have just finished the first phase of a joint Positive Water Impact study. By Positive Water Impact, we mean making more and better water available to the environment and the communities where we and our suppliers operate. The focus is local, at the watershed level. For a global company like PepsiCo it means coming up with solutions for every area where we operate, from our bottling facility in Zhanjiang, China to our snack and beverage plants in Mexico City. "At PepsiCo, in our talent management space, we are working on doing more regular and consistent talent reviews. It's like the business, you don't review your numbers annually, but quarterly, by month and by period and looking at trends and data to do better. In the world of people planning or talent management, that has to come at a more regular pace."

A few months ago, I wrote about changing trends in the world of talent and its effect on organizations -- the topic I spoke about at the Human Capital Institute Conference in New York. There, I agreed to be interviewed on-camera and was prompted with the question: "What keeps you up at night?" I've heard this question asked to others many times before, and it is truly an effective way to get individuals to take a step back and define the real priorities in which we should invest our time and energy. So while I try to keep work at the office, watch the video clips below to hear about some of the areas I'm thinking about when my head hits the pillow, and am working toward during 9-5. Read more

When I think of my own mom and my role as a sports mom, I realize how we, moms, wear many hats -- coach, cheerleader and confidant -- but regardless of the role, we are often our aspiring athlete’s No.1 fan and hold a special spot on the sidelines. I know all too well, from my own experiences! Read more

Read more

Today I had the honor of being a key note speaker at the United Nations Youth Assembly (UNYA), which took place at the UN headquarters in New York. I was truly inspired by the passion, motivation and enthusiasm that the more than 600 young leaders demonstrated. Without a doubt it refreshed my world! I have come to the conclusion that the secret of youth is not in a fountain or in a new pill, but by staying close to young people. Read more
