Possibilities lie at the intersection of performance and purpose

PepsiCo Mexico’s New School Portfolio

In Mexico, we just started a new school year. Millions of children will have new experiences, new challenges and above all, a fresh opportunity to share and build a healthier school environment. A significant part of this learning experience will take place during recess, the recreo -as we call it here in Mexico- and in PepsiCo, we are contributing to make this moment of the day as fun and enjoyable as it has always been. We are proud to announce that PepsiCo and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) have just finished the first phase of a joint Positive Water Impact study. By Positive Water Impact, we mean making more and better water available to the environment and the communities where we and our suppliers operate. The focus is local, at the watershed level. For a global company like PepsiCo it means coming up with solutions for every area where we operate, from our bottling facility in Zhanjiang, China to our snack and beverage plants in Mexico City. Talent for Today’s World, Tomorrow’s Performance

Last week, I spoke at the HCI Conference in New York about how PepsiCo is exploring new ways to attract and nurture the best talent in an increasingly global, complex world. With a history dating back over 100 years, our company has adapted its business model and strategy in response to shifts in the economic, political and social environments as well as the evolving change in consumer preferences. It is exactly this ability to adapt and embrace global and organizational change that has allowed us to succeed. As part of Performance with Purpose, PepsiCo is committed to talent sustainability, investing in our people as a competitive advantage. With this priority, my team has worked to develop a refreshed approach to talent acquisition. Here’s a look at just five ways we’re evolving from a recruiting perspective: Being global while acting local – With operations in 200 countries and... Read more

Human Potential in a Global Workplace

Friends and colleagues let me tell you about an inspiring day at The Economist’s Human Potential Summit a few weeks ago. I was very privileged to find myself amongst worldwide experts and leaders. We were brought together to discuss the belief that today’s global economy may be fuelled by innovation amongst leading businesses such as PepsiCo – it’s called the “Ideas Economy.” Specifically, the summit focused on the human potential for driving ahead the best and most innovative ideas. I was honored to speak about innovation among our own diverse workforce here at PepsiCo on a panel called “Intellectual Diversity in an Open World.”

PepsiCo CFO Hugh Johnston Accepts the Salzberg Medallion for PepsiCo

It was wonderful to return to my alma mater, Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management, a couple weeks ago to attend the 61st anniversary of the Harry E. Salzberg Memorial Program, an annual celebration of achievements in supply chain management. Equally exciting as recalling memories while I walked around campus, I had the distinct privilege of accepting the prestigious Salzberg Medallion – one of the most esteemed awards in the field of transportation and supply chain management – on behalf of PepsiCo for its sustainability efforts. As PepsiCo’s CFO and a Syracuse alumnus, it’s an honor to be recognized for our work around the globe. We touch the lives of tens of millions of people everyday through a whole host of brands, including Frito-Lay, Tropicana, Pepsi, Gatorade and more. With this comes a responsibility to bring sustainable solutions to people and their communities. This can be... Read more

PepsiCo CFO Hugh Johnston at the United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit in New York City

Last week, I had the privilege of attending the United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit in New York City. Hundreds of business leaders from around the world came together with a single purpose – to discuss how to build a new era of sustainability based on environmental and social responsibility. It was a unique opportunity to share PepsiCo’s progress towards these goals, as well as to learn from other leading companies who have embarked on similar journeys. When I told people that I’d be attending this event, I received some confused looks. They didn’t understand why PepsiCo’s chief financial officer was representing the company at a summit focused on corporate social responsibility. I understood the source of their confusion, as topics such as environmental sustainability have traditionally been perceived as things that are separate from a company’s core business operations. At PepsiCo, however, we have a... Read more
